Lewis
Addison Armistead was born in 1817 in New Berne, NC. During the Battle of
Gettysburg, Lewis Armistead commanded a brigade in
George Pickett's division of
James Longstreet's I Corps.
He was mortally wounded during the famous charge made on the Union Center on
Cemetery Ridge later known as Pickett's Charge. Brigadier General Lewis
Armistead died in a Federal Hospital on July 5, 1863. Armistead's highest
rank was Brigadier General. |
